굿즈는 상품을 뜻하는 영어‘goods’이다. 한국의 굿즈는 초기 국내 아이돌 팬덤 (fandom)에서부터 시작된 개념이다. 2000년대 이후 음반과 음원만으로 수익을 내 기 어려운 상황에서 엔터테인먼트회사는 연예인의 이미지를 기반으로 팬들을 대상 으로 다양한 상품들을 제작하여 판매했다. 그것이 바로 굿즈 상품의 시작이다. 그룹 HOT, GOD, 젝스키스, 신화로 비롯한 1세대 팬덤에서 팬덤 간의 차별을 통해 자신들의 특징을 드러내기 위하여 굿즈가 차별의 기준으로 사용되었다(홍종윤, 2014). 음반과 사진은 굿즈 상품의 가장 흔한 종류였고, 그 외에 팬들이 자신이 속해 있는 팬덤과 다른 연예인의 팬덤과 구별하기 위해, 자기의 팬덤의 특정한 색깔로 구성된 풍선, 우비, 야광봉 등도 굿즈 상품의 대표적인 형태였다.
